Great Battles of The War of The Austrian Succession

by Tad Holtsinger

The War of Austrian Succession, while not very well known, was critical in sorting out national boundaries and dynasties after Maria Teresa ascended to the throne of Austria. The four greatest battles cover the period between 1743 and 1759 and are decisive in each their own way. It was truly the first international conflict fought in Europe, India, North America, and the Caribbean. The war involved the major powers of England, Austria, Prussia, Russia, Spain, Hanover, Bavaria, the Dutch, and the Holly Roman Empire in a variety of shifting alliances.

Great Battles of
Frederick the Great

by Tad Holtsinger

Frederick the Great was the classic soldier-statesman and ruled Prussia as King in the mid-18th century. Frederick inherited a superbly disciplined army formed with great attention to detail by his father, the previous King, Frederick William. Frederick was an aggressive general who frequently attacked even when outnumbered and used tactics like the oblique order to great effect. Frederick wasn’t always the victor and could be careless or overconfident, but he always came through in the end and not only survived, but prospered. I have chosen eight significant battles to explore in this collection, and not all were victories, but Frederick did learn from his mistakes and prevailed.

Marlborough’s Greatest Battles 1704-1708

by Tad Holtsinger

John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough, was England’s premier commander during the War of Spanish Succession. He managed a successful but sometimes brittle coalition of Dutch, Prussian, Danish, and various German armies against the French, Bavarian, Spanish, and other German states campaigning in Flanders and Germany.

This book covers four of his greatest, most defining battles: Blenheim, Ramillies, Malplaquet, and Oudenarde. These battles were all won despite the interference of the Dutch and the different objectives of the other allies.
